The Music Director is responsible to the Director for all musical aspects of the production; they work closely with the Orchestra Director
and the Choreographer to bring the style, tempos and vision to the show.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Director
- Auditions the singers and may make recommendations to the Director for casting
- Schedules music rehearsals with the Director and Choreographer
- Teaches the cast members the show's music
- Leads music rehearsals-principals, chorus and musicians
- May serves as the conductor
- May help find a rehearsal pianist and orchestra members
The Orchestra Director
The Orchestra Director serves as the artistic leader of the orchestra and is responsible for determining how the music will be
interpreted.
Responsibilities
- Selects musicians
- Creates separate rehearsal schedule for orchestra members, provides location for rehearsals
- Collaborates with Director, Music Director and Choreographer
- Leads orchestra rehearsals
- Conducts orchestra during dress rehearsals and performances
